This product has been sent with the kind generosity of Smok for the purpose of an impartial review. Furthermore the thoughts that you find below are mine and are no way influenced by the fact that this was gifted as a review sample.
Without a doubt the Smok RPM160 is a monster of a pod device. While it features dual 18650 batteries and a large e-liquid capacity of 7.5ml. Is the Smok RPM160 a sign that things are changing in the world of pod systems? But is the RPM160 all air? Let’s take a closer look with this review of the Smok RPM160.
Below is a quick breakdown of what you may expect to see included with the Smok RPM160 Kit.
1x Smok RPM160 Device
1x Smok RPM160 Pod (2ml TPD)
2x RPM160 Mesh 0.15Ω Coil
1x Micro Type B USB cable
1x User Manual
Typical of Smok’s packaging the front features a laminated photograph of the enclosed colour option for the Smok RPM160. Additionally key features are showcased in the form of icons and text. While the back features the box contents, authenticity checker, health warnings and governmental compliance logos.
Continuing on and removing the outer sleeving and box lid reveals the user manual, the Smok RPM160 device with the pod pre-fitted. While the coils and USB cable are sat alongside.
Despite the slightly unusual shape, the Smok RPM160 is surprisingly sleek and looks stylish too with its faux carbon fibre panels. Despite only weighing 120g without batteries the sturdiness of the RPM160 while in the hand belies its plastic form. While the ergonomics with its filleted lines sits very comfortably in the hand. Furthermore I am really enjoying the form factor of the RPM160.
While the front fascia comprises of a larger faux carbon panel, the layout is tidy and the audible buttons are both responsive and well placed for ease of use.
However some maybe disappointed with the lack of a USB-C port, personally it doesn’t matter to me, as only a trusted charger should be used for charging 18650 batteries.
With the batteries inserted, the battery door remains steadfast and while there is some slight upwards movement there is no noticeable movement when handling. Additionally the battery door remains easy to open with no excessive tugging to operate.
Without a doubt Smok lcd’s are not the sharpest, nor the brightest which can make viewing in bright daylight difficult without covering by hand. Nonetheless the layout of the Smok RPM160 is very good. Moreover the layout is uncluttered making the readouts easy to read. Furthermore there is none of the usual coloured theme options to distract from the layout, which is great to see.
As expected the pod for the Smok RPM160 is well formed and cleanly moulded from a slightly darkened PCTG. Despite this, viewing of e-liquid levels remain very good. Additionally the pod features an integrated drip tip, the drip tip is comfortable to use and perfectly balanced to the enclosed 0.15Ω mesh coil.
Furthermore the refilling hole on the back of the pod is a good size with it’s swivelling gasket making refilling easy work. However while removing the gasket, if the pod is pushed too much from the back it can come out of the housing and land on the floor. Despite this the pod remains sturdy when in use and rock solid if pushed from the front.
Dimensionally from the base to the top of the device, the Smok RPM160 stands 125mm tall inc the drip tip. Furthermore the RPM160 has a width of 28.2mm and a depth of 45mm from the front to the back.
While offering a no fuss style of vaping, the Smok RPM160 features an adjustable wattage mode, and puff counter.
Moreover turning on the Smok RPM160 is via the customary 5 clicks on the fire button. Furthermore 3 clicks on the fire button prevents the device from being fired. While Holding the down and fire button simultaneously locks the wattage output. Additionally holding the down and fire button together resets the puff counter.
Without a doubt having an unrestricted adjustable wattage mode allows for fine tuning of the vape experience. Moreover with the Smok RPM160, the control buttons allow for adjustments in 1W increments. Perfect for balancing the power output to suit both coil and personal preference
Featuring dual 18650 batteries, the battery economy on the Smok RPM160 is good. Moreover vaping at 62W with 2000 mAh batteries will last between 250-300 puffs depending on how old the batteries are.
Additionally on the screen battery levels for both batteries are shown in both an icon and a percentage read-out. Similar to that of a mobile phone. Furthermore when charging the remaining charge time is also shown which is always great to see. While testing the Smok Smok RPM160 produced a charging rate of 5.12V 1.26A.
Without a doubt refilling of the Smok RPM160 is super easy, with its good sized refilling hole and a gasket that swivels out of the way. Moreover with the refilling hole placed on the back, there is no need to remove the pod in order to refill. However the refilling holes location can cause an issue. Moreover if pushed from the back of the pod, it can be pushed out of the device and land on the floor. Consequentially placing a finger behind the pod to support it while opening and refilling the pod becomes 2nd nature.
Despite the lack of an adjustable airflow on the Smok RPM160, the airflow provides a loose DTL vape. However the airflow drawn from both the front and back produces a very smooth vape. Interestingly the Smok RPM160 is a lot quieter because of the wider airflow.
While replacing the coils is a nice and easy affair on the Smok RPM160. However the coils can still not be replaced with any remaining e-liquid. Nonetheless replacing and priming the coil is a case of pulling out the old coil. Followed by priming the new coil with a few drops of e-liquid both down the coil chimney and on each of the wicking holes. Next place the coil into the RPM160 pod, and refill. Importantly leave the coil to sit for 10-15 minutes in order to become saturated.
A point of note, as part of the testing process, I leave the used pod filled with e-liquid to sit for a minimum of 24 hours. As a result neither the pod or coil leaked, which is good to see.
Without a doubt the Smok RPM160 0.15Ω coil performs better than expected and wicks like a champ. Moreover 62-65W was perfect when testing. Additionally Sweet Mango vapes comes through very well and produces a mellow Lemon curd. Furthermore the sweet brown sugar of a crumble vape comes through perfectly balanced.
However flavour is not the only strong point of the RPM160 0.15Ω coil. Presumably as a result of the coil size, the coil continues to produce good flavours up to the 600 puff mark. While the flavour then diminishes, it can reach 900 puffs before suffering from dry hits.
While the featured IQ-160 chipset has a response time of 0.001s, I have no means to test this. But I can say that the response time is very quick with no noticeable delay. Additionally the Smok RPM160 offers the following level of protection.
Interestingly, there is no reported protection for USB charging. However it would be fair to presume there is some level of protection.

Without a doubt there is very little to moan about with the Smok RPM160. Moreover only the issue is that of the pod coming away from the housing if pushed too much while refilling.
Without a doubt many will initially see the Smok RPM160 as overkill. However the battery economy experienced coupled with replaceable 18650’s makes the RPM160 a pleasure to use. However it is with the forthcoming dual coil RTA pod, that the RPM160 begins to make sense. Furthermore the form factor of the Smok RPM160 with its flat back and filleted lines not only makes the RPM160 comfortable to hold. But perfect for sitting comfortably in a jacket pocket or a custom hip or belt holder. When coupled with the good flavour and longevity of the RPM160 0.15Ω coil, the Smok RPM160 is bound to be a hit with many.
